Northern Gypsy Tunes with a Celtic Twist

Meet one of the Fèis 2026! Yukon Gaelic Festival's featured bands: Stockstill & Rose.

Stockstill & Rose is a jaunty “Northern Gypsy bluegrass" duo, based in Whitehorse, Yukon. They have been playing together for 10 years, but also have decades of performing and touring in other bands under their belts.

While their music is based on the traditional sounds of banjo and fiddle bluegrass and old-time sounds, they also love to weave in Eastern European and gypsy jazz tunes and stylistics, and Celtic fiddle tunes.

Amelia Rose, fiddle and vocals, has a varied musical history, which included 15 years in the Whitehorse based Celtic-fusion band, Fishead Stew. With this band, she toured across Canada playing every Irish pub and from Edmonton to Cape Breton, and also toured Scotland for 4 months.

Mike Stockstill , banjo, hails originally from California, but has been a Yukoner now for many years. His love for the 5 string banjo is based around bluegrass, but he has a style uniquely his own and loves to play different folk styles and genres.

Come on down and here them play Saturday, May 23rd! The evening starts with a traditional ceilidh so bring your poem or song and be ready to share then relax and enjoy Stockstill & Rose followed by Crooked Folk. Fàilte is furan | a warm welcome, welcoming with open arms (trad. expression).
